Subject: Jan Uytenbogaert (1557–1644), an Arminian preacher who opposed strict Calvinist positions on predestination and was forced into exile. He later returned to the Hague in 1629.
Medium: Etching and drypoint on laid paper.
Date: 1635.
Inscriptions: The print is signed and dated by Rembrandt in the plate at the top ("Rembrandt f. 1635") and includes a Latin quatrain by Hugo Grotius at the bottom, which alludes to Uytenbogaert's return from exile.
