Car Crash
Fine Art, Serigraph, Carlos Almaraz, West Coast Crash
is a painting by the Chicano artist Carlos Almaraz. There are different versions of the work, including an oil on canvas from 1982 and silkscreen prints from 1990. The car crash series is one of Almaraz's most iconic bodies of work, depicting dramatic, fiery car collisions on Los Angeles freeways.
About the Artist:

Carlos Almaraz (1941-1989) was a prominent figure in the Chicano art movement in Los Angeles in the 1970s and 1980s.
He was a co-founder of the influential artist collective "Los Four," which helped to bring Chicano art to a wider audience through public murals and a historic exhibition at a major U.S. museum.
Almaraz's work is known for its vibrant and expressive use of color, often portraying the energy of East Los Angeles. He created art that blended pop culture, surrealism, and social commentary.
The original painting of a similar work, "Crash in Phthalo Green" (1984), is in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Almaraz's works have been the subject of numerous exhibitions, including a 2017 retrospective at LACMA called "Playing with Fire: Paintings by Carlos Almaraz".
