Procedures

Book covers were washed with water and Orvus. Using Isinglass gelatin resizing, strips of tissue were applied to strengthen fold lines and to fuse tears. In preparation of binding, one strip of Okawara was added to siding of one cover, and one strip of tissue was added to corresponding side of other cover. Covers were then soft mounted using Isinglass gelatin resizing, left to dry and then removed from board. Covers were fused together using water soluble glue, and left to dry overnight. Binding was reinforced on front side of seam using heat-press tissue, regular fine tissue, and water soluble glue. Covers were humidified in humidity chamber in preparation for gelatin remount. Covers then remounted using partially-set gelatin in order to smooth out ripples; stubborn fold lines and ridges were then burnished while damp. Covers left to dry overnight. Binding and missing paper patched and burnished to create uniform surface, and the whole piece was then restored using watercolors. Piece then removed from board and folded down binding. Remaining blemishes along binding were then restored. Restoration was performed using airbrush, watercolor, and colored pencil.

Conclusion

Project completed on August 15, 2013.

If it has relied on significant evaluation assistance from any individual or individuals in the performance of this evaluation or the appropriation of this evaluation report, PM-LAPG has named such individuals and disclosed the specific task performed in this evaluation report. PM-LAPG certifies that any individual so named is qualified to the same extent as PM to perform the task. PM-LAPG has not authorized anyone to make a change to any item in this evaluation report, therefore, any change made to this evaluation is unauthorized and PM-LAPG will not take responsibility for it.
VI) The Client may not disclose or distribute this Evaluation Report to any potential purchasers of the subject property without first obtaining PM-LAPG's prior written consent. This consent must be obtained before this evaluation report may be disclosed or distributed to any other party, including, but not limited to, the public through advertising, public relations, news, sales, or other media.
