Original pen and ink illustration by Arthur Young, illustration on paper, mounted on mat board. Lower left corner missing, stains throughout. Slight purple stain in upper right. "A BUSY CORNER" From 1887 |
Marinaded face down in water and orvus solution between mylar sheets for 30 minutes. Peeled away board manually in small pieces. Rinsed with water and lined with Okawara. Upon drying, entire paper turned purple. Washed a second time and removed lining and treated with diluted HP (50%) and re-lined again. Upon drying the purple color was more pronounced. I them removed a small section of the paper near the upper right for testing. I tried Chloromine-T with negative results, then I tried Sodium Hypochlorite. Each successive test caused a worsening of the discoloration. |
