The Shadow

Silkscreen, advertisement on cardboard. Print was received in poor condition with large sections of the outer edges missing and the ink flaking off.
Window card was humidified in a chamber for several hours and slowly exposed to moisture. Attempt to save the flaking paint particles was performed by airbrushing on a gelatin resizing treatment, which was unsuccessful. Due to the deterioration of the top layer, the flaking paint particles had to be removed. The cardboard backing was then removed in several stages. While the window card was dry, the first few layers were sliced off. Then the entire window card was rinsed with water, a facing was applied to keep the front intact, and then it was soft mounted face down. The rest of the cardboard was then peeled off. Window card was mounted to gator board using Beva film and heat press. Restoration was performed using airbrush.
