One sheet Magic, stone litho, Nikolai Kobelkoff
(1851-1933) was a Russian-born performer known as "The Human Torso" because he was born without arms and legs. He traveled throughout Europe and the United States, performing feats of dexterity that included writing, threading a needle, and loading and firing a pistol by using his mouth and stumps. The poster is a lithograph from around 1895 by Adolph Friedländer advertising his show.
Kobelkoff was a successful entertainer who became fluent in several languages and earned enough money from his tours to open an amusement park in Vienna. He married and had eleven children, all of whom were born without disabilities. He retired in Vienna and died there in 1933.
