Stagecoach. It is a color remake of the classic 1939 John Ford film of the same name and features an all-star ensemble cast. The movie's poster art, as well as character portraits used in the end credits, were created by the famous American artist Norman Rockwell, who also has a brief cameo in the film as a townsman.
Plot Summary
Set in the Wyoming Territory in 1880, the film follows a diverse group of strangers traveling together on the eastbound stagecoach from Dry Fork to Cheyenne, while U.S. Cavalry troops announce that the Sioux, led by Crazy Horse, are on the warpath. Each passenger carries secrets or is running from something:
Dallas (Ann-Margret): A saloon girl being driven out of town.
Doc Boone (Bing Crosby): An alcoholic doctor who finds a moment of redemption.
Hatfield (Mike Connors): A tough gambler with Civil War secrets.
Henry Gatewood (Bob Cummings): A corrupt banker on the lam after embezzling funds.
Mr. Peacock (Red Buttons): A liquor salesman disguised as a preacher.
Mrs. Lucy Mallory (Stefanie Powers): A pregnant woman traveling to meet her cavalry officer husband.
They are joined by the Ringo Kid (Alex Cord), an escaped murderer seeking revenge against the Plummer family who killed his relatives. Tensions rise during the journey, but the group is forced to put aside their differences when they are attacked first by Apaches and then by the Plummer outlaws, leading to a desperate fight for survival.
