FRANKENSTEIN TITLE CARD 002
FAKE, UNIVERSAL HORROR, BORIS KARLOFF

This is the second example of this fake that we've uncovered.
front
back
Here we see the object , edge-on under a microscope after I've cut a small sliver off the edge to expose the clean papers underneath. In this image we can clearly see the layers comprised of modern ink-jet copy paper on the bottom of the image, and original, vintage lobby card paper on the top of the image.
Here we see a microscope photo of the "F" in Frankenstein. The image location FTCFINFRANK has been marked in pencil on the card. We can see the not only the white restoration, but I've removed enough of it to see the ink-jet patterns underneath. Also we clearly see the Ink jet pattern lines throughout the red.
Here is a close up image of the monster's forehead. I made a microscopic mark to catalogue the photo for future reference. Again we can clearly see the ink jet printer lines (various blobs of inks that string together to form lines)
Though more difficult to make out here, the ink jet printer lines are visible in this area as well. This is a microscope image of the monster's front foot.
Here we see a microscope image of the left eye of the figure at the center of the object. I've marked the location of the image and my pencil line is shown in the image. We can clearly see the ink jet printing patterns here, and throughout the flesh tones.
Here wee see a shot from the lower left corner of the lobby card, marked directly on the card as FTC2LOWERLEFT. Again we see my pencil mark and the ink jet patterns.
Here the image FTC2LOWERRIGHT clearly marked on the card to the right of the woman. I've removed the airbrush paint to reveal underneath the ink jet patterns which mimic the look of old paper.

Conclusion

THIS CARD WAS NOT PRODUCED BY POSTER MOUNTAIN INC. This is a reproduction of an authentic lobby card made with a digital ink-jet printer. This is a reproduction of an original poster which has been painstakingly made to look, and feel like the original. It is a color copy which has been mounted to the paper from a real lobby card (which has been sanded thin so as to better disguise the forgery) and a very significant amount of restorative media which is not uncommon on original lobby cards has been added to further increase this effect.
