Conclusion

Print was delivered by the owner on 5-18-2010. It is mounted directly to canvas. The top edge of the canvas is fraying. There are 8 pieces of tape attached to the canvas. The top edge of the print has several slight tears. The print exhibits extreme fading, color loss and discoloration. Discolorations are yellow and pink in color. Areas that appear to have darkened are the result of extreme pigment loss surrounding a shadow color; most notably inside her chin, neck and hair. Examination on the light table shows dark organic patterns resembling mold growth patterns. The discoloration could have been caused by the moldy paper’s reaction to a brightening/bleaching effort. The extent of the damage caused by the brightening attempt is unknown. There are two dark spots, one on the wrist and the other to the left of the wrist that appear to be stains of previously active mold.
