Fine Art, Lithograph, Marc Chagall
When Abdullah Got the Net Ashore...
is a 1948 color lithograph by the artist Marc Chagall (1887–1985). The piece is the eighth plate in a series of twelve created to illustrate a portfolio titled Four Tales from the Arabian Nights, published by Pantheon Books in New York.
The artwork is based on the story of "Abdullah the Fisherman and Abdullah the Merman". The text that inspired the image describes the moment Abdullah the fisherman pulls his net ashore and sees a man in it, causing him to flee before the man calls out to him.
The series, which is considered one of Chagall's finest works in lithography, was produced in a limited edition of 90 signed and numbered impressions.
