U.S. HALF SHEET, 1943, UNIVERSAL, LON CHANEY
AS PART OF THIS REPORT WE HAVE IMPRINTED THE LOWER LEFT BLACK MARGIN, UNDER THE UNIVERSAL LOGO, WITH THE PMCS "FINGERPRINT" TAG
Procedures
Half sheet was demounted from its canvas and Masa backing by soaking between Mylar and water for approximately 20 minutes. Poster was cleaned with Orvus soap and water and then re-sized with liquid gelatin. Edges and fold lines have been supported with strips of Okawara paper.COSMETIC RESTORATION
Fold lines have been detailed with a combination of watercolor paint and colored pencil. The entire border has been airbrushed.
Conclusion
Half sheet arrived signed on verso by its owner. It has been previously mounted to canvas with Masa paper in between. Examination has determined this half sheet to be an original printing.Half sheet has surface scratches. The horizontal fold line is pronounced, with cracking on the left and right sides of that fold line; particularly significant cracking is seen in the "S" and "O" in "Son". There is a crease on the left side above the center fold line.
The lower left corner has a tape stain approximately 2in. wide.
Examination on a light table reveals no paper losses.
PREVIOUS INTERVENTIONS:
Examination with black-light determines that the entire border has been airbrushed, light airbrushing has been done to the upper right blue color, and the "S" and "O" of "Son" have been in-painted.
Fold line and crease detailing restoration has been done with what appears to be colored pencil.
