Examination under black-light, microscope, light table, digital imaging and tactile observation. Documentation by Lindsay Simmons of Poster Mountain Inc.Conclusion
THIS POSTER WAS NOT CONSERVED, NOR RESTORED BY POSTER MOUNTAIN INC. Poster was received on 10.10 oz. army duck cotton canvas and Masa substrate. Examination under a microscope has determined that this poster is an original printing. Examination on a light table reveals missing paper sections that have been filled: in the top border center (1), right border center and lower (2), and left border at lower fold line (1).Additional minor paper losses in the border can be seen with the naked eye: top border on right (1), bottom border (5), left border (1) and a tear at the upper section, and right border (1).
In the lower border an embossing is stamped with "8" and reads: "Property of N. S. S. Corp. May be distributed only by poster companies duly licensed by N. S. S. Corp."
Black-light reveals that tape has been removed from the lower lateral fold.
The lower border is unpainted and has 2 tape stains at the center.
PREVIOUS INTERVENTIONS:
Airbrushing of the border has been limited to spot painting of the top border at left, right and center. Border painting was also done in the left and right borders where the fold lines cross into the border paper.
Black-light reveals that the "C" in "Dracula" has been painted with airbrush. Additionally, the collar bone area to the right of Dracula's hand has been airbrushed, and an area approximately 4"x4" under "Nightmare" has been airbrushed orange.
Detail restoration of the center and lower fold lines has been performed with either brushwork or pencil. The upper lateral fold line has been left unrestored.
